Was meant to do a Velopace Spring Sportive last weekend. Bottled it as the winds were high and forecast was 4 hours of heavy rain. Started a new job Monday so didn't want to incur a cold.
Text him a bit later to see how he'd got on. The reply came to say that he was in A&E.
Turns out a gust of wind had nearly blown him into a ditch akin to Geraint Thomas' incident. Recovered that but caught his mate's back wheel at 35mph. Said his hand was dragged through aforementioned ditch which was full of gravel.
One broken finger and another had the top ripped open requiring plastic surgery to flip and stitch. Lucky boy at that speed.
