I’ve just finished upgrading my 1977 Carlton circuit? , I really like the bike , I had one new for Xmas 77, I’ve had this bike now for 7 years now, but the past few years it’s just been left in the shed getting rusty, so to get get more use of the bike I’ve tried to modernise it with lighter parts and a nice big 32 cassette, & use it for my main winter bike, don’t get me wrong I loved the old ten speed but compared to more modern bikes it was sometimes hard work to get it up to speed, and now I’m in my 50’s with a worn hip joint, I need to make thing easier for myself.

that's a fine looking machine.

I wouldn't worry about the upgrades personally, the fact that the frame suits and is still in use is the main thing here.

Big fan of bolting modern components onto a nice riding steel frame, done a few myself and not just recently (although I've done more since this)

Also my 85 Raleigh (super) Equipe converted about 12yrs back,
