its non unlike simplex, apart from I cant see a red coloured simplex anywhere.
whilst i can see why you want to get it back to exactly how it was, in that period component were so interchangeable as friction shifting worked with any derailleur, and sales of frameset only was very common, any period derailleur would look just fine.

As for how to equip the bike there would be a great variety of possible components that you can use.

The derailleur does look like Simplex. I can understand your wanting to get it back in to original "kit", but I would avoid Simplex if possible - I remember having a Simplex derailleur on my bike in the 70's and didn't get on with it, plastic bits fell off and I seem to remember it was quite "clunky' in changes.
I converted that bike to fixed wheel
I would suggest a 1970's Suntour Cyclone:

I will get some shots of my Competition and post them here for you.
As far as parts go, anything from the period that fits and pleases you should be ok, as they were sold as frame sets only.
I went a bit over the top with my restoration when it came to buying all the ancillary parts.
The reason for this was because I made myself a promise that one day I would add high end components because at the time I could only afford low end stuff. Of course, I never got around to doing it until nearly 50 years later! Oh well, better late than never!
I will try and get the photos up within the next few days for you.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. He kept his bike in lovely condition.
The red Simplex rear derailleur is quite smooth and silent in operation . I have one on my Falcon Black Diamond . I was a bit wary of it as I had an early version of that type in 1966 which a friend somehow managed to break . The parallelogram snapped . I think the later red versions were beefed up with metal plates. You may be able to find one on the bay.
Good luck with the rebuild.
