Carrera Parva Mens Hybrid Bike - Worth the buy?

I am looking for a new bike I have never bought a mountain bike before but I would like some advice on it. What do you guys suggest? The Carrera Parva Mens Hybrid Bike (http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/hybrid-bikes/carrera-parva-mens-hybrid-bike) has spotted my eye but is it really worth the money.

It's a hybrid rather than a mountain bike, but will be fine for light off road, towpaths etc

Unlike all other hybrid bikes, this one uses 27.5" (650B) tyre size. The website says they are "larger 27.5 wheels", but they are smaller than the normal 700c hybrid (29" in MTB speak)
Check the availability of everyday commuter tyres before you buy.
Apart from that, it has all the right bits in the right place.

My Carrera subway has 26" wheels so I guess they are larger than wheels from a few years ago

I like the look or larger wheels and they run smoother but make it harder getting through trail gates etc. So 27.5 is a happy balance

So 27.5 is a happy balance

27.5 is a nice size but the price is paid in bike shop inventory. A couple of years ago, small women's bikes were made in 650C but now they are all 700c. There is a limit to how much variety and inventory a shop can stock and fashion dictates a new wheelsize that is nice but not needed and abandoning a wheelsize which is really needed by smaller riders.

I'd be interested in how your partner gets on with this bike. Both my girls need new bikes this Christmas, and the Parva is on the list.
