My SRAM 9 speed cassette is slightly loose on the freehub, movement is maybe 1-2mm.

It's not affecting indexing or drive.

Is it worth changing the hub now or waiting unti it gets worse?

The bike is just used for leisure trail riding once a week.

Does it need a spacer behind the cassette?

oh. So is the cassette loose on the freehub, or is the freehub moving?

Personally i wouldn't ride until i knew what was wrong, a cassette loose on the freehub will wreck the splines on the freeehub.
Have you got a cassette tool?

just tighten the lockring up to 40Nm (or whatever yours goes to) - simple. There will always be a tiny amount of play if you grab the cassette and rock it.

Checked the cassette lock ring and it appears tight. I've just ordered a set of tools to remove the cassette, I'm thinking it's actually the freehub body that's got the play in it.

Unusual for it to fail after 300 miles.

Can I use any 9 speed freehub body or do I need an SRAM one?

It's a SRAM PG950 cassette.

Is it the whole cassette, or individual sprockets? Shimano style (alloy) freehubs are known for notching...you won't really know until you get the lockring tool and chainwhip.

The sprockets are all tight. I'll whip the cassette off later this week. Got two other bikes so no rush.
