Cassette Wobbling

Hello, I've not come accross this before and was wondering what the explanation is. When I took my rear wheel off to clean out the build up of crud that was between the sprockets I noticed that the whole cassette has a slight wobble in it when you, well, try to wobble it. Is the cassette lock ring loose? Is my freewheel worn? Is it something else? Is it normal? I've never noticed it on any of my previous bikes. It's a Shimano XT hub and cassette. Try and tighten the lock ring first. That is the most likely cause. It does not need to be very tight so don't force it. Just nip it up, slightly more than hand tight.

Either the lock ring isn't tight, or it's the shape of the teeth, designed to improve shifting.

Spot on. Took it to my LBS (I haven't got a cassette tool) and they tightened it up for me at no charge. Thanks
