The male cat has shown up on camera today near our front door, first sighting in 11 days. Good to see he’s ok but odd that he’s wandering around during the day. Possibly hungry so will get food out asap.

EDIT: Trail camera shows that he found the alternative food location that his sister uses overnight so won’t have left hungry.

That's not a male...

That's a tortoiseshell female. And she's been spayed, probably via trap-neuter-release, because she's been ear-tipped.

I can only go with what the cat protection lady who dropped off both cats told us as she’s got a lot closer to them than we have when they were initially trapped. Whilst calico is very heavily dominant in females it’s not impossible to see it in males.

Yes, both cats are TNR and have their left ear clipped.

Thanks but I will take details of the sex of the cat from someone who has actually handled it. Figures put it at 1 in 3000 being male. Given there are an estimated 11.2 million cats in the UK there are likely to be approximately 3,700 male tortoiseshell cats. Not exactly vanishingly rare.

Cat Protection Scotland tell me that they remove the ear tip on both male and female cats when neutered.

Both cats came back together last night for the first time since release. Glad to see they are staying together.

The darker cat popped round about 1:30am for some food and got interrupted by a badger so popped back 20 minutes later.

Not convinced she knows what she's doing!

Mine has just plonked herself on my lap the minute I sat down. Makes it awkward to reach over her to type.

Ours acts as an alarm. She jumps up to me and starts meowing, wanting to be fed, at around 7am. She is very good though, if it's too early she'll just sit by the bed and wait until she hears someone stirring. I might add, she has plenty of biscuits on tap, but likes a teaspoon of meat 3 times a day

Love, death and robots is an excellent animated anthology series with a good mixture of stories and animation styles, and this is one of my favourite episodes. Series 4 episode 10, "For he can creep" In 1757, London, Satan battles a cat for the soul of a poet whose verse could give him dominion over the earth.

Ref. my earlier post about the 'stray' brown cat that's been turning up for a feed, he's now been trapped, neutered, vet checked and re-released back into our garden.
Initially, he just took off but has returned every couple of days for another feed, so he's not been scared off which obviously is a good thing.
What happens from now on is mostly up to him. whether our lot allow him inside, or if he wants to come inside, we'll have to wait & see. There's plenty of good cat houses in our garden which he can use when the weather becomes inclement, so only time will tell.
