Haha so you go and post threads including semi naked women (i have no problem with that btw, just kind of hypocritical), then complain because someone implied a swear word, without actually swearing...

Don't really see the fact in the past that I posted pictures of woman in the same league as someone saying to you. what the f*** you are on about????

Didn't mentioned that I was complaining or offended as if you read anything I've said I don't take anything that seriously. Was just asking a question.

Was just a bit surprised you felt the need to bring it up, instead of actually answering the question, of all the people from this board i was surprised to be honest. And yes, i think a sleezy picture of a women bending over is about on par with a letter f followed by three stars. ;)

Well don't be surprised. I was on the phone at the time and just replied asking why the swear word. Not arguing or bothering my arse about it. was just asking.

But if you think he wasn't meaning **** then I'm surprised!

Anyway, I'm too busy to explain to someone what Ash Wednesday is. That's what google is for. Anyway busy afternoon. I'm off!! See you!!!;)

Last year I got mine put on at 06:30 am before work and one of the Hindu's in the office was fascinated. I also got lots of kudos from my Muslim colleagues when the Lent fasting stuff got outed. One of the atheists pointed out in a meeting that I had a dirty smudge on my forehead. My how we larfed.

Y'day I had them applied at 19:30 pm and went home after Mass so no one commented at all.

Is this a recent thing? Never ever heard of or seen it before.

I assume one has to use "special £££" ash provided by the church. Or is any old ash OK?

:girl:

The ash usually comes from the burnt palms or palm crosses from the previous Easter, usually mixed with oil or Oil of the Catechumens (Holy Oil); same oil as they use in Baptism.

Ayrshire to Harthill .
That's what I said, a very localised area, a tiny fraction of the west of Scotland.

We used to get it done as kids (Catholic primary school). I'd totally forgotten about what now seems to me a rather odd practice (like all the other stuff I left behind when I started to really think about it all :girl:
But each to their own, and all that.

I don't know what this is about either. Nor do I care.

One tribe has a custom that requires a smudge of ash to be applied to the forehead of the tribe member. Another tribe* doesn't do this. Each tribe ridicules the other tribe for not following/following the custom. Repeat for any other custom.

Dr Seuss described it best

(*They're the same tribe;))

Most likely I will still be thinking about for a good few years yet.

I like thinking, me.
