Plenty of cattle grids riding round the New Forest yesterday, and as I crossed the first one it occured to me # 3 had, as far as i could rember never ridden over one. I stopped & looked back, bless him, he had stopped, looked at me all confused, I told him to go back a few feet them just ride staright over it, bless him he rode at it then took his feet off the pedals & tried to walk his bike over while still sat in the saddle. I had to get off & go bcak for him, carried the bike over for him
I then spent a few mins, telling him how to ride over, I went back n forth several times, him watching me, he had a go & made it over.. As we approached the next one, I called out reminding him he should speed up a bit & push down on the pedals, lift his bum slighlty out the saddle.. He speed up, but didn't lift up, his shout of "Oh me dingles" as he bounced over had me in stiches

The last part had me laughing so hard it brought my eldest daughter through to see what was up. After reading it, her comment ...

What a shame!

Thanks all, I'm not going to bunny hop! Could do more damage that way and at the speed you'd require it might be slightly sketchy there, the cattle grid at the top is followed by a reasonably sharp right with a steep gradient (14%ish).

This still leaves the problem of the ascent, which I enjoy more tbh. Might look for an alternative descent too...but not the one I took today, jesus, one seriously scary road/track leading into Harptree and a T-junction. Plain wrong.
