The guy needs to learn to relax and smile a bit, he comes across as arrogant and aggressive. . . . . that's fine during a race but is it really necessary all the time ?

My thoughts entirely! I thought it might have been because his pants were too tight. Did you see how badly fitting his suit trousers were? That can't have been comfortable...

I just watched him on youtube and I think it must be a different version from the one shown on BBC. I thought he came across really well, he's not used to being in the lime light (as Chris Hoy said he would be sports personality everywhere else), nor is he used to explaining his psychology or training methods to people who do not understand his sport. Sorry to disagree with you guys but I thought he was really good.

Yep, it just made me cringe - he makes Phil "The Power" Taylor look cerebral.

What makes me shudder about it all is the fact that not just a jockey winning it, but the fact that being a jockey must be one of the few sports where you never even represent your own country, I cannot think of any other off hand but I'm probably wrong, and also that the best jockeys probably get the best horses to ride which will keep them in a top position and winning plenty of race.
But since posting this, it does appear that they do have an international masters jockey challenge in Dubai

I can think of many sports where you never get to represent your country. Virtually all motorsport, professional boxing, snooker, golf, tennis (Davis Cup doesn't really count as it is only a sideshow in the calender).
Yes the best jockeys (who compete in an incredably physical and dangerous sport) get the best horses, but only after they have proven to be the best. The best cyclists get the strongest teams, the best drivers get the fastest cars, the best footballers play for the top clubs etc etc. Sport is the ultimate model of capitalism, no allowances are made for the disadvantaged and winner takes all.
That's why it is so popular.
FWIW, about nothing I suppose, I love Cav.
He shoots from the hip, tough as granite and ruffles a few corporate feathers. He has personality in spades although an attitude that many find unpleasant and abrasive. I like a bit of different from the smug, media-coached sorting nonentities.
Funnily enough Wiggo comes from the same school of saying whatever's on his mind.
Still, each to his own.
