My daughter is using my house as a hotel for her friends, in our absence this weekend, and has jokingly requested that I leave some caviar and champers for her.
Sparkling wine was the best I could do the local deli proved lacking in the stuff of sturgeons so I bought this instead - it looks gruesome! Anyone tasted it?

The fish paste I eat here with cheese in sarnies is called caviar!

I could have sent you a tube!

No thanks. It looks like a poo on a cracker.

"Carefully selected since 1891" - is that the last time anyone was famine struck enough to eat one?

should have got the lumpfish stuff, sainsbury do it.

I was given some "oeuf de lompe" a few years ago by a friend who had been on a booze cruise. It is almost as good as caviar and a hell of a lot cheaper. I had the real stuff in Moscow 20 years ago :becool: . Will have to look at Sainsbury's next time I'm in there.

Arch! I'll send you a tube! It really is good with cheese on bread! And it doesn't look like a turd!

It was Richp's oysters that reminded me of poo...

Go on, then! I had some dried cod recently, a mate went to Norway and brought a tin back. I quite liked it, but it was a real 'marmite' situation, with half the people who even dared try it pulling faces at the taste....

I had some sushi once that had different fish eggs on, and I was surprised at their crunchiness...

There are several things I have never eaten, caviar is one of them! I don't like the idea of it. The other is raw oysters ... (shudder!)

Tried raw oysters for the first time this summer on holiday on Jersey. Quite a unique experience. I will have them again next time I get the chance. So will GF. Next time I might try them with lemon juice :becool: .
I used to feel sick when my mother had tripe (usually raw). That is something I never fancied.

Oh, now I feel sick just thinking about it!

When I was a teenager, I did summer work for the NCDL (now the Dog's Trust) ... we fed them on raw tripe, fresh from the slaughter house ... it was green and it absolutely stank! It used to make me retch just going into the kitchen where the dog food was prepared ... the dogs absolutely loved it though!

It is a well known fact that CycleChat café is read by all dogs that have internet access - they love the tripe! ('It's in the Ruff Guide to Cycling Forums' too)

Rich, add exoticism with a can of braised tofu - looks like seasoned rolled-up newspaper - splendid fare to accompany all your fine wines and other things which you think you have hidden out of sight ;)
