Great ride today Touche - thanks for organising it.

Pity I had to cut short at the end and missed out on the hospitality.
Nice to see you Tele, albeit very briefly, and sorry I missed HJ.
And of course, let's not forget to mention the mystery guest appearance - HLaB - good to see you mate.

Great to see you all again! Sorry you had to rush off, ED, the cup cakes were very pretty ... and exceedingly tasty!
And nothing is quite as good as a cup of tea when you get out of the rain! Many thanks to Touche & Mrs T. for their hospitality!

That rain was something else when it hit, glad we were sheltering under that big tree :rain: for the worst of it, excellent timing by the p*****e fairy  (sorry ED, I wasn't wishing it on you  ).

I ended up with only 40k+ a bit, due to miscalculating timings for meeting up...

Must do more CC Ecosse rides! We'll sort something out in a few weeks' time, the next couple of weekends are booked out already.

Just managed to drag my aching bones from the comfort of the sofa (aided by the start of a chick flick)

Leaving aside the weather, that was a very enjoyable ride. We didn't quite do the route as posted due to there being a locked gate onto private land that it went through - thanks Google, and on meeting up with Telemark, she helped guide the weary back along a route that avoided the dreaded Polton Mill.

The p fairy struck twice (thrice counting edindaves pre ride one) I had a front as we were heading down the A703 between Waterhead and Eddlestone and edindave had a rear just south of Carrington. Both occurred when we were off the planned route!!!. Is there a link? HLaB must tip the fairy something, he made it without incident.

Fortunately we managed to be on the route for the 1 road I was looking forward to - from Eddleston to the A72. On leaving the A72 to go into Peebles by the back route, there was a sign telling us that the road was closed, but we pressed on. I wish we hadn't, there was a brutal climb that I gave up on and walked. Only going by the profile, I was not looking forward to the B709/B7007 north from Innerleithen. Oh how I was wrong!! A lovely long climb, followed by a cracking descent to the Middleton turnoff. The rain and wind spoilt it a bit, but a definite must for when the weather is fine.

Going into Middleton we hit a bit of rural rush hour as the local farmer was herding his cows to the milking parlor. We rode abreast to avoid getting sprayed by the bike in front. Unfortunately the bikes still got covered.

Roll on the next Ecosse

Great ride folks and dont worry Edindave I had your cup cakes and Sleekit Collies. Here's the GPS of the ride. The road we couldn't take was one round the Portmore Loch (near Waterheads). We left the busy A703 at Eddleston, I think the steep bit of road was somewhere along there (edit actually it was further along just south of the A72 and the west side of Peebles, here) , where the road was closed but fortunately just to motor traffic. IIRC the sun actually came out up there. Yes the Inneleithen golf course road is great in the right weather

According to RWGPS, the max gradient we encountered was 19.8%, that must of been that wee climb after the main road.

No wonder I had to walk it!

Where's the "Polton Mill cllimb"?

My boyfriend calls the hills north of Innerleithen golf course the "Granites". I've gone up that road twice heading north out of Innerleithen, and it is indeed a lovely steady climb. My boyfriend and I came the other way on Saturday, and it is a pretty good descent, too - the climb from the north is also quite steady. Unfortunately it started raining just as we started the descent.

Sounds like you had a good day out in spite of the weather - we did! :rain:

Ah, thank you. I don't think I've ever been that way. Crossing Roslin Glen seems to involve a short and sharp climb whichever way one goes!

I also call the climb to the North of Innerleithan the "Granites" and agree - it's a lovely ride whichever way you go. I've also done the climb from Eddleston to the A72 and from the A72 to Eddleston and it is a much nicer ride from Eddlestone. It's bloody hard work the other direction.
