So now you all know my exact age!
Actually, that's one of the few things the Yorkshire Post item got right: reports of my severe head injuries seem to have been exaggerated.
Thankyou very much for all your kind wishes - it warms my heart to read them.
Since you'll all be dying to know more, I'll tell you what little I know (it won't take long). I remember turning out from work on the A64. For once, it was, apparently, clear, so I didn't have to wait.
The next thing I knew I was gradually becoming more aware of what was going on in an ambulance, and pieced together that I must have had an accident.
Of hard facts, I know no more than those who've read the newspapers, except that I do seem to have banged my head, cracked my shoulder blade, acquired numerous bruises and grazes/road rashes, and had to have some glass removed from my neck (possibly all the blood from this (actually quite superficial) wound is what sparked reports of "severe head injuries" - head and neck wounds always bleed like rivers). Oh, and apparently my Moulton AM is a write-off. (It won't be easy to replace, although it was insured).
I gather one of my own students was the first to come upon the scene, and called in the emergency folk (she'll get full marks!).
Well, I'm back home and moving about, but it'll probably be a couple of weeks at least before I'm back on a bike... so I may be spending more time on here!
Thanks again for all your kind thoughts.
