Just be comforted by the fact that no one actually watches Big Brother (or Celebrity Big Brother) anymore. Last series had less than 1 million viewers , and they would have been in the 16-24 age range.
I enjoyed the first two series back in 2000 when it was cutting edge reality TV which actuatlly tried to be a social study of people interacting. If you look at the type of people in the house in the first two series they were actually quite a normal cross section of society. If you recall, the first few series actually had "experts" such as doctors, psycologists and the like commenting on people's reactions.
But after the first series the contestants know what to expect, and will play up to the cameras. Once the rabbit was out of the hat the producers had to introduce more and more odd-balls to the cameras at which point it lost any sense of social experiment and became a total non entity borefest. This is highighted by the fact that Jade went from being an ordinary contestant on Big Brother to being on Celebrity Big Brother a few years later.
