Chain lubrication

I've no idea how long the chain will last but as I said before, it's more important to me to have a clean chain.

Why call the thread 'Chain lubrication' rather than 'Chain cleanliness'????

Finish Line Wet is the mutts nuts. Just wipe the chain clean after each ride.

would this mean that for say an all day wet ride you would be running without oil for half of it?

I use Finish Line Dry lube on my Audax bike and rode through heavy rain and godawful wet roads for about 20 hours on a 400 km on Saturday. Chain looked a bit dirty at the end but was still running smooth and quiet and changing perfectly.

Don't care if the chain looks black - not that anal.
'Grinding-paste' theory is over-rated - it really doesn't work like that IMO.
Lubed chains run smoother/quieter and keep water out.

I've been wiping the chain clean for the last 3 years - I had enough of that, besides it works out quite expensive as you need to re-lube more often that way.

I know that some people are not bother at all by a dirty chain but I just can't be happy with a dirty chain it's funny cause the wheels some times get pretty dirty but that doesn't bother me in the least

I undo the chain and wipe it clean.

I apply a drop of oil between each tooth of small cog on the rear of the bike.

I re-attach the chain and run it through a few times then I undo the chain and wipe it clean.

Is this poor practice?

Yes.

You want oil on the chain rollers not on the cassette teeth and you want to oil it before it squeaks. You also want wipe it down before you lube it to remove teh build up crud.

I use Finish Line Cross Country Wet lube. You can put a tiny drop onto each individual roller using a plastic syringe with an 18g hypodermic needle. Oiling the whole chain uses less than 1 ml. Wipe off the surplus using the world famous Mickle Method...

Well, I had never heard of it and it was an interesting approach...... happy that he gets his 10p
