chain slip

Hi was out today on a ride lowe gear on a hill stood up to pedal and chain slipped what causes this could it been due for a clean or something new to this biking malarkie

Have you changed your chain recently?

Worn cassette or chain or both. As mentioned above, sticking a new chain on when the cassette is old can cause this as the chain doesn't mesh properly.

Only had bike about two months from new

The only time I have had something like that with new components is when the gears are slightly out and the chain is jumping under pressure rather than full on slipping as you would have with a worn cassette.
If the bike is only two months old, I would be tempted to take it back and get them to sort it out as it should be under warranty.

Did you have the chain at an extreme cross? Big cog to big cog or small to small?

I think small cog to third biggest cog

I think small cog to third biggest cog

This gear is too small, stop using it and everything will be fine, rule #5.
