Top marks to the OP for what I feel is an elegant solution to the crud problem. The amount of grit thrown onto the transmission by the front wheel is a huge issue: I have a tadpole trike and the chains last ages because the front wheels cannot coat them in gunge. The chain also runs in plastic tubes for some of its run and I have a Scottoiler - it all works.
