Chainguards...

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a chainguard for a Specialised Hardrock?

There appears to be holes for one...

I know you wouldn't normally have one but, just for a ride round the park with the kids - the old trakkies get a bit greasy.

LBS doesn't have one and turned his nose up at the idea. Lol.

That's what mine did and all the not so local BS's too

I ended up with a wrap round velcro thingy and it works very well.

The velcro thingy protects the frame from the chain banging the frame and knocking the paint off? If so, that's fitted already.

I meant the chainset protector plastic/ metal thingy - I think.
I'm still learning the terminology..sorry.

That's the thingy! So how do I know what one fits? Measure the distance between the holes in the chainset/large ring wotsit? Or try to find what model/make chainset I've got?

you mean a front chainring bash plate/ protector yes you can get them, personally i use ankle clips/velcro/ elastic band on crankside leg

The problem is, there are so many variables with 'thingies'. I think you would have to go to a shop and try them out. Some Shimano chainrings come with them fitted, others don't.
Even when wearing trouser clips/velcro, there is danger of contact with the oily chain, usually when you are wearing new trousers. A regular rub with a cloth to keep the chain guard clean usually prevents any oil being transferred to the trouser legs in the event of accidental contact.

The sort of chainguard that just covers the front ring will keep some oil off and stop your trousers getting caught up in the chainset but it won't completly stop them getting oily. Spin your cranks and it's easy to see the closest your pedal comess to the chain is on the top run. This is the sort of chainguard that will keep the oil off;

Pretty much standard equipment on bikes in countries where cycling in everyday clothing is the norm.

Bash guards are, as the name suggests, there to stop your chainring getting bashed. Not only complete overkill for your use but most if not all are designed to fit a single chainring, note the question at the bottom of your link.
