hiya guys, just had my chainring screw's (or bolts, idk haha) getting loose (and one of them had the thread popped out), so the mechanic tightened them back again and put a new thread one. thing is, this specific one has the thread on the other side of the chainring, different than how it was before and how the rest is. is that a problem or makes no diff. at all? lastly, how often should I tighten the chainring's screws/bolts to avoid this from happening again? I ride fixies for years now and this never happened. I'd take any tips if applying some kind of glue or sealant to the screws/bolts can help prevent this as well. ta!

Sometimes the bolts work a bit loose if they weren't done up completely at the factory.

Its worth checking periodically when you clean your bike, I check all the small nuts and bolts around once a month. If you want to be sure you can put some blue loctite on the threads but checking them periodically works for me.

They're bolts (nut can go on the threaded end). Put medium threadlock (eg 'Loctite(TM)') on these bolts before installation, tighten them 'properly' and you should never need to tighten them again.

Are they from aluminium? If so, aluminium wears easy, try steel. Velosolo (fixed gear especialist) sells stainless steel ones and I have no problem with them although I would like to have two allen key sides instead of that sleeve.
I cover them in a kinda brown semi transparent grease (used for aircraft doors etc), tighten them repeatedly further, do a ride, sometimes can tighten 1 or 2 further, after which they ceased loosening. If still, they probably got worn and its replacement time.

That reminds me - my 40-year-old tube of Loctite finally ran out recently. The lettering had long rubbed off, and I'm struggling to find the equivalent nowadays in Loctite's rather confusing range of products.

Any offers for what I need to look for? It was blue, if that's any help.

I recently lost my ancient tube of Loctite in a house move.
I replaced it with "TRIPLE QX THREADLOCK AND SEAL" from Euro Car Parts.
Their Part No. 542771361.
Only £4.69 incl. VAT.
It's a medium strength thread seal.
I've used it several times and find it to be good.
[Cheaper than I remember Loctite, as well]
Guess what ... No sooner had I bought the Euro Car Parts stuff than I found my old bottle of Loctite.
