Champing

Yesterday whilst exploring the byways of Kent I went in to a stunning medieval church and was greeted with a sign saying 'Shhh, champing in progress.' Camping in a church. I thought it a great idea and haven't heard of it before. Anyone tried it here? It would be a boon for cycle camping if the weather is a bit rubbish.

Just checked the website. Looks interesting but not many churches listed and out of season is steep at £49 a night but I suppose it goes to a good cause of keeping the building maintenance going.

I just costed up a single night for my family - £250 without breakfast I think I would rather be much more comfortable in a proper hotel for less than half the price.

Some time ago while on a tour, my tent was destroyed in a gale. I spent the next three nights sleeping in the porch of various churches on my route. It wasn't very warm but at least I was dry.
