Hello all.

I am looking to change my handlebar stem for a taller stem that is adjustable.

However, when I look on bike shops and places like eBay, there are a bunch of sizes.

I have no idea what size to buy.
22.2mm, 24mm 1 inch etc.

So my question is, What do I need to measure in order to find out what size I need to order?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i would guess 22.2 and you will also need to measure the od of the clamp area on the bars themselves

You need to measure the diameter of your current stem to make sure the new one will fit into your head tube. You will also, as mentioned above, need to measure your current clamp which holds the bars to make sure your new stem will fit your bars (unless you are buying new bars as well). The other thing to take into account is the minimum insert/max height mark on the stem. If you raise the stem above the max height mark you risk damaging the head tube. So when you look for a taller stem you are looking for the length of stem above the minimum insert or max height mark.
