A 4cm pothole on a motorway sounds dangerous

In order to decide whether a pothole is urgent or not, somebody's going to have to go out, measure them, take photographic evidence and then fill in a Road Surface Unintentional Surface Anomaly Inspection Form.

Here's an idea: instead of giving them a tape-measure and biro, let's give them some tarmac and they can just fill the thing while they're there.

That is far too logical. Where's the paperwork, where is the process, the analysis......

The last one I reported was fixed fairly quickly ... though it confused me as they reported the problem as solved on Fill That Hole when they had a date to fix it rather than when they fixed it 10 days later.

Even better they have resurfaced the area of Gloucester Road / Zetland Road junction which was one large accumulation of potholes (which I had reported individual potholes on).

You have more patience than me. I think I could overload the Fill That Hole database by reporting a miles worth of potholes from my front door.

Do it!
The data on fill that hole can be used to report how councils are dealing with pot holes. + if you report it and it doesn't get fixed and if anyone breaks or damages their vehicle due to the pot hole then they can claim from the council for the damages. If you don't report it then they can't.

As I say patience or lack of therein. I have worked out that if I photographed every one of them and recorded a good description of its' location just leaving my car park would take me well over half and hour to get 200 yards!

You don't have to do every one ... but if you don't do it who else is going to. You can't really complain about there being potholes on the road if you haven't let the council know that it exists. My friends think I'm mad sometimes when I stop and take a photo ... sometimes it might take me weeks such as the Zetland Road one being a really busy junction that I would see them but not be able to stop to take the photo. You don't have to photograph them but I think it helps. And record them on Fill that Hole rather than the council website as they have less control over it.

Just decide to record the worst one you go over each week.

I appreciate what you say. I will get around to it one day.

Actually you have just prompted me to remember some really bad ones but I'm not sure if the road is a private road as there often seems to be potholes in it and big ones. Is there a way of finding out on-line who maintains a road?
