@steveindenmark what are you hoping to active with the changeover? The Fc551 is a MTB triple, whereas the one you have shown in the photos is a road triple. The bottom brackets are slightly different to allow for the difference in axle lengths. Are you trying to achieve a lower geared touring setup? If so it would be better (to avoid chain line problems) to fit smaller chainrings and or a bigger cassette.

I bought the bike new, for a song and I really like it. But even as a commuter bike I could do with a couple more gears to help with hills and I am using only half the gears when its on the big ring as it is just too much effort and I am pretty fit.

I have a Koga World Traveller and the gearing is great. I would like to change the gearing on the Roadchamp to something similar to the World Traveller. The World Traveller is a heavy bike and I want to use the Roadchamp for light touring and commuting.

My plan is to change the chainrings.

Why not look for a CX crank set that will have something like 46/36 on it?

I want a triple, but there are not that many CX bikes with triples and so I would be restricting my choice. But it is something else to look at.
