Hi guys, just made a jump from a triple to a compact 105 bike.

On the front i've a 50/34, on the rear an 11-28 - now i know that should be enough blah blah blah lol

If I wanted to switch the rear to an 11-32, what would i need to do? Is it an incredibly difficult process or is it a case of replacing the appropriate components and tweaking derailleurs?

As i understand it i'd need the cassette, a new medium cage rear derailleur and a chain - seem right?

You would also need some specialist tools - a Chain Whip and a Lock-nut Adaptor as a minimum - if you don't already have them

are there any, like possible issues (besides misconfiguration) or other things that need to be considered? Like frame wise?

It's more the practicality of doing it that the process - would most likely get someone to fit it all

cool, just been reading about the jumps between the gears? How do you find it? Im considering it as it seems to give some easier gears, plus tighten them up at the lower end

It's an easy job, with the right tools. Just make sure the cage on your rear mech is long enough (distance between jockey wheels), and the chain is long enough.

It's very easy to swap a cassette with a chain whip and a locknut tool. There are loads of clips on Youtube about how to do it. Just make sure that if the chain whip slips, you don't mangle your knuckles. It's a good idea to have the detailed diagram of how the cogs and spacers go on in the correct sequence, and also details of the spacer that goes next to the freehub.

The chain issue is well worth thinking about, what looks like a new chain that is getting on for being short doo becomes the right length with use!

before you go for 11-32 cassette, check if your rear derallieur is medium cage because short one wont fit it
also longer chain (114 links for 10sp)
chain whip
cassette removal tool
little bit grease

Telling him to check the dérailleur, when it's in his opening gambit, and needing a longer chain and tools when that's already been covered, hardly adds anything?

hardly adds him an info about what lenght exactly he will need so he wont need to dig around, boy you got to relax.
