I enjoyed the C2C last year, even the preceding months' preparation- it was a complete break from routine and when we got to Tynemouth I didn't want the experience to end... so I haven't got a problem with people taking time out to cycle anywhere just for the fun of it... and if people want to give you money for charity then why not!

It was the escapism and the remoteness that I liked....we were never more than 10 miles from some town or village along the way but it felt like another country!

If and when I have time, I'd like to do John O'Groats to Lands End via Edinburgh, Belfast, Dublin, Cardiff and London.

And not for charity, but for myself (and hopefully with my brother, cousin and a mate).

I had a notion while reading this thread that a more appropriate end to end would be Lizard - John O'Groats, since firstly Lizard Point is the most southerly point, secondly as we know Land's End is not the most westerly point, and thirdly as has been observed before Land's End (or more accurately, the buildings and tourist infrastructure we've put there) is a bit of a dump. Lizard's very pleasant, on the other hand.

I'd love to have a go, but the only thing stopping me is that the thought of organising the logistics properly scares the crap out of me.

The problem with redefining the End to End is that it would have to displace LEJOG and JOGLE from the population's perception of what the extremities are.

As for organising, the headache is getting yourself and the bike to and from John O'Groats. If you are camping and are prepared to wild camp then you don't even have to worry about booking into camp sites. Been there and done it twice.
