im a little tea pot
i'm doing a charity ride (self organised and all) early may from bristol to lands end, 250 miles over 3 days (including a climb up porlock hill!) and im struggling to find people or companys to help with sponsorship or helping out.

i've emailed around work, posted up once every two weeks or so on farce book and even emailed a few companies to try and help but im nowhere near my target!!! im starting to get disheartened and think f*ck it but i know that, after the grief i gave my brother for backing out of a sponsored walk and that some people have sponsored me a lot when they dont have much that i'd be letting everyone down if i didnt do it! plus im not one for quitting! id probably still do it regardless but just knock the miles down!

anyone got any hints or tips or ideas to aid me in fundraising? i was considering seeing if i could raise £75 - £100 in a week and then go bald all over by waxing the body and bicing the head (i have mainy similarities to a silverback!) and hosting a raffle at our next work doo but i need to find over £300 to hit my target! i supose the bonus is that my work are going to fund match so its not a total loss

get to your local shops and tell them what you are doing and that you will get a cycle top printed up with logos on for the ride and that you will be advertising them on your fb aswell as other places wround the tinterweb a just giving page with big thanks and links so your are broadening there advertising in local and wider area, then get in touch with the ppl you are raising the money for an get some tips info of sponsors and ideas to get sponsors onboard im sure they will have experience in doing that ttype of stuff good luck

The charity you're raising funds for would be an obvious first stop for hints and advice?

Also local paper (and radio?). Your local drinking spot and other social/leisure contacts (note to self - you're asking them to help find more sponsors/supporters!)

When asking for help it's important to get the balance right.

I had a colleague who was raising money and he attempted to subcontract some of it out to me by trying to get me to organise a sponsored cycle ride. He even gave me a target amount to raise.

I managed to fill my diary with other activities.

ive only really be back on the bike since september last year (came off and fractured my wrist so 8 weeks off) plus in upwards of 16 stone at the moment (being 6'3" as well) my max daily ride so far is 30 miles on the flat!

i've got a just giving page up along with a paper form for the old timers with no internet knowledge/trust might just have to let it pan out and possibly speak to my LBS, a few local shops and my old rugby club to drum up a bit more sponsorship!
