I shall be watching this thread with interest.
Would it be possible to count it as a 300km DIY audax do you think ?
Having looked at trying to keep it as far as possible on scenic roads, with as little of the A4 as possible, I reckon it will end being 200 miles, as I've got HPC to Weston-super-Mare at 150 miles on a nice scenic route with less than 7,000 ft of climbing (HPC to Brighton is at least 3,000 ft), plus Southend into London.

Without wishing this to come across as a thread derail..... how about, the following night, a short night, doing the opposite?
Start at sunset, on the coast, facing west. Ride east into the night. Catch the dawn on an east facing coast.
Huntstanton to Lowestoft is what I have in mind. Clockwise round the Norfolk coast, with the shoreline never too far away.

I've had a epiphany - or rather, I've seen the light, as to when we could run that one. Time for another thread............

I probably can't make it, but on the off-chance this looks great. One suggestion on the route is that it may be better to skirt north or south of the Mendips - it's quite a long climb to the top of Cheddar gorge and legs will be very tired by then. Better I think to go via Wells and across the levels.

If you were planning to shadow the A4/ M4, I have a nice route between Bristol and Swindon.

I'm feeling intrigued and interested! It may be a kick up the arse to get myself fitter and if it all goes tits up I can always bail out somewhere.
