Once I acquired a cycle from a friend with varying degrees of Campagnolo stuff on it...

The actual brakes were Record yet the make on my Raleigh (tektros) are just as good stoppers ;)

Not really. Old campag was the best of the old stuff. All old brakes were crap. Modern dual pivot brakes are much better all round.

We stand upon the shoulders of giants, Yenners...

Andy, i can ASSURE you they where dual pivot I do know my cycle technology ! ;)

Additionally, they could have been Dura Ace or whatever - What I'm saying IS: the shape amongst brake caliper manufacturers is by and large the same; its the compound that is the done deal !

To throw something else into the mix here - my Sora brakes are good (with DA pads), but my friends bike with the same Tiagra levers, Aksium rims, DA pads but with Ultegra claipers definitely does have better brakes.

Alternatively, cycle into a kerb, that stops you purdy damn quick !

Not as quick as the old Mafac centre pulls Elmer. They could have you "over the bars" soon as applied. They had two positions ON or off!

Like the 'Max Headroom' avatar. ;)
