Cheap(er) Cycling Gear for the Rotund Returning Cyclist

Morning all,

Making a return after a reasonable hiatus. After being active for a decent whack of time, the arrival of my son last year saw me pretty much stop all forms of exercise. The weight has crept up, the waistline has crept out, and my race licence has expired. I seem to have found all of the weight that I lost so joyously 2-3 years ago!

But no more, I think. It's his first birthday on Thursday and for one of his presents (yes, it's really for him, honest!), I've bought a trailer and hooked it up to the 29'er. I'm also planning on squeezing some evening rides in after he's settled and gone to bed.

Anyway, long story short, most of my old kit doesn't fit me anymore; and I don't want to spend hundreds on new kit when I'm hopefully going to start shipping weight in a downwards direction. Tenn and PlanetX are already on my list, but I was wondering if anyone had any more suggestions? Cheaper is better, but not to the extent that I want anything white that becomes see-through, or cheap eBay knockoffs. I'll be wearing baggies over bibs regardless of bike to begin with, but ultimately I'm going to be looking to get my legs out again!

True but their tops are OK for the price. Their XXL is pretty comfy, fit-wise, unlike most of their competitors.

Depends on your budget really.

I find the LG stuff sold at Evans to be excellent value although a little pricier than say Aldi or Decathlon (don't have any Aldi stuff but do have some from Decathlon and they are good as well.)

I'm not after loads for now... I've got a few bits and pieces that probably will still fit, so I'm likely looking at a couple of short-sleeved base layers, couple of sets of bibs and one or two SS jerseys for now. Ultimately, that should guarantee that the weather will change for the worse and that I need to buy new windproofs, waterproofs and thermals, if nothing else!

They made the CycleChat stuff I think ? @Shaun ? whicvh I'd have to say is some of the best quality kit I own for summer riding apart from my ShuttVR stuff.

What is their equivalent unbranded range to the CC stuff or so they only do that quality in "club" gear?

Yes, they made our latest batch of kit and I'd re-use them.

Baggies over bibs, now I really do think that is a weird look. Something like I am trying to hide something that you can see, but by wearing baggy short I think you cannot, even worse with black leggings.

It is only a body, we all have one and they come in all shapes and sizes.

And I agree with the others, for cheap almost disposable cycle wear the Aldi is a good bet. There again we have some cheaper Ebay gear here that is lasting very well with lots of use.
