Must just be the policy - £100 voluntary + £50 compulsory but would replace with new, so £450. Second hand is all very well if you can find the right bike locally in the right size in the right condition that doesn't need work 
I was quite particular about my needs - took me a lot of looking to decide on the two bikes I have 
I'd rather pay the £150 and have brand shiny new 
Better than not being insured surely? When I come to renew in August I might find a better deal but this is an existing policy so no choice
