dont think they exist. Cheap waterproofs are not breathable despite what they say on labels/packaging & even more expensive gear isnt always breathable & waterproof
The aldi/liddle waterproof trousers are good value when they sell them (prob some time next month) but not breathable. Personally I wear lycra & as long as it's not too cold, I'd just rather get wet than hot & sweaty inside waterproofs
Dont like Altura here, have used a Nightvision jacket though and that was great, if a bit boil in the bag. I do have a pocket rocket for moderate showers... mainly because its small when packed.
For quality and better control of the water I do quite like the Gore stuff. Tried one of their coats a while back, really good, not as boil in the bag I found.
I think good waterproofs are an investment. You might as well wear a bin bag otherwise.
On my hybrid that has full mudguards fitted I use a cape. Very old school I know, but I can happily ride in the rain with almost no sweating up and it keeps the wind off. On my roadbike with no mudguards, I use a Karrimor lightweight waterproof running jacket. It is light enough to roll up and put in my pocket. I do sweat up inside it, but it is remarkably windproof so the sweat helps keep me warm.
