I've heard some people disassemble them and dip the innards in ATF!
I've done this. The theory is the grease they're packed with hardens up over time, leading to poor shifting. Dunking it in ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) softens the grease to give it a new lease of life. Or you can use Shimano Oil, made of pixy dust and unicorn spit. At least I presume those are the ingredients as it costs $LOTS_OF_MONEY.

There's how to videos on Youtube - hardest bit is getting the circlip that holds the sprocket in place off - it's a bit of a pingf**kit.

Thanks for that. Did you notice a significant improvement in shifting after dunking? Or in other words, does it really work? Also, did you do a quick in-out dunk, or leave it overnight? I've got one of these hubs myself, so your experience of this is valuable. :reading:

Yes, there was some improvement, so I'd say it works. I think it was a 15 minute dunk plus draining.
