hi all, i'm building up a ss road style bike and trying to keep to a really strict budget. now, i'm struggling with wheels! the frame currently has 26 1/8 or something!! there going and i'm gonna get 700c on them(i've taken a pair of my other bike to check they fit the frame and luckily they do)

SO looking for a cheap wheelset. I'm 6'4" and 15 half (ish) stone so slightly worried about strength. ive found the following:

what do people here think about these? or can anyone make any recommendations? any help would be great as i'm desperate to get it built and get riding!!

cheers

Hi there,

I'm doing pretty much the same thing, I've just given the old reynolds 531 frame its first coat of new colour today. I considered those wheels myself but like you wanted to keep cost to a minimum, even though they are very inexpensive, although cost is spiralling, I already have a wheelset as I upgraded my road wheels earlier in the year. I am planning to go ss for awhile before considering fixed but had problems with the rear wheel. I have since bought a rear from sjs cycles for only £25.99, it came today and I was pleasantly surprised how light and smooth it is, double walled and with rim tape.I changed the axle to bolted and fitted a tyre.
I need to apply another top coat and lacquer to the frame over the weekend before i build her up again.

I'd go ahead with the wheels, they're not light by any means but at least it'll be good training, lol.

Good luck

I've had some bits off that seller before - seems OK, never tried wheels though.

This guy is also excellent value and a specialist in bits for SS / fixed http://stores.ebay.co.uk/shacklewell-components?_rdc=1
