Cracking a solo.
Passed me by that's for sure. Probably out on my bike instead :okay:
There's plenty of money in gaming, the really big releases have similar budgets and expect to get similar returns to blockbuster movies, really big MMOs are played by extraordinary numbers of people all paying subscriptions and all paying for upgrades and expansions. It's a HUGE industry.

It's massive money.. lots of sponsors. This internetty stuff and you-tube. Stampy-Long nose and Syndicate have a nice tidy income out of it (for now). It's the new football !!!!

@gbb It wasn't a 'camper' - I've done this once playing family on the play station - hammered the three 'regular' players by sniping them for a laugh over a few beers !!!! In the watch mode you can see what the player is doing, and he was going round corners knowing exactly where the player was hiding - it was like he had the watch mode on which highlights where every player is.

Why do folk waste their lives playing video games in the first place?

You'd be surprised.. I used to play as a kid, Spectrum and stuff. Then mega drive, PC. But it was down time for me as I'd be cycling, studying etc.. It's very big business, called E-Sports now. It sells games, and unlike movies, games are hard to copy, especially if you play on-line. That said, some of the biggest on-line e-sports games come free, but you can pay extra for additional avatar's etc.

With cheating though, you won't get to the top. Those that are good, have to be good without cheating.

My daughter plays League of Ledgends and is actually quite good, and in a sponsored 'clan'. Before I get shot, she actually spends less time gaming than my son, and she is top class, perfect student etc etc. She does get stuff done before she plays a game (think modern dungeons and dragons). She plays on a mid range laptop, nothing flash. But she only plays League and Minecraft.

My son plays all sorts of stuff, mainly simulators, but does a bit of CSGO. He has an expensive rig he has saved up for though, but he also does photo and video editing on it, and is a whizz on making videos - want's to get into computing/media.graphics as a career.

For me now, I just marvel at the technology progression. I'm a bit of a techy nerd but I rarely play any games - if I do, it might be 10 minutes on a Pac Man emulator once in 6 months...

The hardware now on computers is outstanding.

Takes a lot of the fun away sometimes, bit like using sniping tool on e bay

Sniping is as legitimate and joyless as bidding.

That's not the weird thing. They play games because playing games is fun, and it can be a physical and mental challenge against the game or other players. The thing I don't understand is that kids are spending their time watching other people play. It's a serious sport, which is where the money comes from.

Mind you, I don't get watching any sport. This is why they kicked me out of Australia.

I'm not surprised, just puzzled. I can't seethe appeal or attraction.

In the old days if we wanted to experience something we'd have to go out and actually do it. That was both physically and intellectually a healthy way of doing it.

These days people stay sat home and pretend to do things, which is the lazy way of experiencing something. Cheating if you will. So I can't fathom it when they complain about someone else also cheating.

That's It's big, even massive business is beyond doubt. That's because modern society is inherently both lazy and impatient, and they want to do things(or pretend to do them) but aren't driven enough to go and seek out such experiences for real, yet are conversely driven strongly demand the synthetic substitute ASAP. It's a contradiction on the very fugue this is causing this malaise in the first place.

Speaking of cheating, I had a fun experience years ago playing laser tag. That's where you run about in a warehouse that's dressed like an 1970's set for Dr Who, wearing vests with laser detectors in the front and back, that you shoot with laser "guns". One of the vests was faulty (which we were told), as the detector on the back didn't work. The person wearing that vest took full advantage of the fault, becoming a killing machine because he only had to worry about attacks from in front and he held his hand in front of it. So I walked up behind him, grabbed him by the shoulder to turn him around, and shot him point blank in the chest.

You are right there @Drago I wouldn't argue.

There is a mix. We will get both kids out over Easter on the bikes, they enjoy that. Not so easy in crap weather that us cyclists like.

There is a massive risk averse culture though. Both my kids did Scouts etc fortunately.
