Thanks Dell, I'll enjoy browsing those, but Arch , I think this might be the footage you were on about

Yeah, that's it. Amazing how it zips through tiny gaps with wings folded in, at speed. I can't even aim my bike through a Sustrans gate at any speed.

I had a pair of Starlings this afternoon too.
One was sitting between the bars on my driveway gates while the other was paddling in a puddle on my bay window roof. It looked like it was selecting nesting material from the wind blows bits of stuff in the puddle.
Quite funny as it seemed to be washing, flexing and testing the weight of each piece before making a choice. Then it flew down to the gate for a final check with its mate and when the piece was finally approved they both flew off.

It'll take them all year to get a nest built at that rate!

How sweet. Like going round Ikea....

I wonder it was actually like humans. The one choosing the pieces (curtains, wallpaper, hi fi, power drill) was taking ages, and the other was just going "Yeah, whatever, can we get a coffee now?" ;)

The hawk/falcon bird was back on the same roof top today.
In the bright sunlight I could see it better but no time for photos as I was heading into work.

It is all solid dark brown with slightly reddish wings. No head or chest markings or patterns in the feathers and a bright yellow beak.

I put these details into the "bird identifier" here: http://www.surfbirds.com/ukbirdid.html#Anchor-Instantly-41650
and it came up with...

On the subject of sparrowhawks - quite common in our area but we rarely get a visit in our postage-stamp of a back garden. So this morning it was quite a treat, even if it was an unlucky day for the fully-grown male blackbird (quite a beakful even for a sparrowhawk!) which it had just killed.

The blackbird is mostly hidden behind the clump of grass. Unfortunately this rather blurred image is the only frame I got before the sparrowhawk took off - taking the blackbird with it but leaving a pile of feathers on our lawn.
