Checking this Specialized Hybrid for rust

When buying a second hand hybrid, I spotted some rust and want to know if this is significant ? can the part be swapped at reasonable price?
Also if possible are these bicycles a good buy on a budget for a hybrid? ( It is light which I like)
What should I be looking for if using for fitness?

Hi there, she's been left outside! Are the BB and forks 'graunchy'? Could do with stripping and replacing the badly corroded bits by the look?

Specialised are a good quality bike. Not some cheapo make so I would recommend it as a second hand purchase.
The frame is almost certainly aluminium so won’t rust.
The clamp is holding the gear mechanism. It can be easily swapped out if it isn’t working. But a quick spray with WD40 might improve it.
The front suspension can be swapped out too but slightly more expensive.
If it rides nicely and everything is spinning freely then it’s worth a punt.

Chain definitely needs lubing and maybe replacing too and the saddle does look like its seen better days , all depends on how good of a deal your getting on it .

Down to price basically, if it's cheap it'll be a good do'er upper, possibly new chain, cassette/freewheel, brake pads, as long as anything that turns isn't grinding, or has play in it

That rust indicates that the bike hasn't been looked after. Although a good version of that bike would be a good buy if you need a bike with suspension forks, given that you're asking a question about replacing the front derailleur you could be out of your depth once you've bought it. I'd personally only buy it if it was very cheap and I wanted to improve my bike maintenance skills.

How cheap is it? Second hand bike prices are low (at least in the UK), so unless that is basically free, I’d find a much better one for a couple of hundred.
There be rather lighter hybrids out there without heavy and often unnecessary suspension

Look beyond the cosmetics, worn-out hubs, bottom bracket, chain, cassette, and the list goes on.

Right.

Its like buying a car with 130'000 miles and people saying: "But those engines are good for 250'000" miles.....

Its every single component thats been subject to that use !
