We love to watch the birds at our feeders, we get a fair selection of garden birds . Daily visit from a wood pecker etc . However i appear to have provided a buffet for a sparrow hawk ! One flew down to my feeder yesterday and bang small bird was taken ! Nature at work I guess !

We get a lot of Sparrowhawks in Derby, this one frequently visits our garden we have a lot of Pigeons for it to chase for dinner. Two kills already since spring I’ve had to clear up.

We haven't seen one in our garden for a while now. Which is a pity, as not only are they a good looking bird, but the local wood pigeon population has exploded and our garden used to irregularly have little piles of wood pigeon feathers.

I dare not put a bird feeder up , our moggie would have a field day

Some years ago we used to have a sparrowhawk which regularly brought its catch to devour by the corner of our greenhouse. A male I think, judging by its speckled white breast. It had impressively baleful yellow eyes. What was more impressive was its efficiency, as whatever bird it had caught was soon reduced to a very few small feathers once it had gone.

Pretty soon that pigeon population will be noticed and will become lunch!
