or so somebody on here claimed. Can't remember who and can't be bothered to search for it.

Well I just worked out that the 7 speed freewheel on my £200 Viking is at 800 miles as so I thought it better be checked. Here are a few photos taken straight after a ride (hence the visible grit).

So does it need changing. To me it looks like it has rather a large amount of life left!

The cheap, unbranded 6 speed freewheel on my Pug is still going fine after 4,000 miles so I would say that that claim is rubbish.

How's your chain doing ? (you could check it with a park chain checker or the like) if its less than 0.75% worn and you are not getting any slip of the chain, I'd say you were fine.

I use a tape measure and 12 links measure one foot exactly

Looks like an attempt to re-open an old argument !

Started young, and still going.
Your freewheel looks ok to me, when the teeth really look like a sharks fin, then you should think about replacing it, and the chain.

Agreed. I measure the chain once a month and check the cogs pretty much every ride. As I say the post was in response to the claims made in the linked post.

twas Calibanzwei's thread, his freewheel has been making a noise and people were suggesting that because its technically "cheap" its knackered.
isn't the case mind, he's now on about 1200 miles and its still going strong

Yes I found it afterwards and linked to it.

I was wondering how long it would take. It is simply my observations on a post that was stated as fact.

FWIW.... I happened to agree with what you posted on Calibanzwei's thread.

You seem to happy with your own chain & freewheel in it's present condition, and your means of checking it on a regular basis, so why post? - and reference a previous disagreement ?

For all your protestations to the contrary, it looks like a rather obvious attempt to re-open an old argument.
