I know it's another few weeks until the shortest day, but I think there has been a noticeable difference lately. Maybe more the weather, but I think the evenings are certainly lighter.

The evenings don't get lighter until after 21st.

"The shortest day of the year is the day of the winter solstice, usually December 21. It seems reasonable that the latest sunrise and earliest sunset would both occur on the shortest day. But it's not so; the earliest sunset is a couple of weeks earlier and the latest sunrise is a couple of weeks later."

...just ignore the fact that the mornings carry on getting darker for almost another three weeks.

Curious? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-30549149
Not until the the 14th!

You then get 3 seconds more in the evening, on the 22nd
