Chest infections

Im suffering...as only a man can do ...unable to ride or do anything...it's completely knocked me for six..

I caught it at a budhist meeting where everyone was talking about being compassionate and giving etc..

great..

anyway...why do people who are clearly ill/ infectious insist of going out etc and passing it on to others.

When I am prime minister I will ban infectious people

....so that's me banned then...stuck on sofa...temperature....Kleenex...

seriously...I think it's selfish to pass on this stuff when clearly you are ill and should be home in bed or something.

I feel a petition coming on...

You'll probably have been infectious before the symptoms, so who did you infect then?

More seriously, the ones this year have been really nasty. I wasn't alone in having gone down with a viral infection before Christmas, then caught a bacterial one to make it worse! The basic virus is being referred to as the 100 day bug because it goes on affecting victims' breathing for so long.

I'm more or less over it but still getting short of breath up hills and coughing up gunge after exercise, as are quite a few others I know.

As for staying off work - not for anything below full-on life threatening flu. Different now I'm self-employed, but my average in 30 years employed was 0.75 days per year off sick, and 10 days of that was when I had Rubella and the doctor pointed out the risk if pregnant women caught it.

I used to get at least three chest infections every year when I was running a lot (between 40-70 MPW) but now I don't get nearly as many. This, however, didn't stop my new manager from claiming I'd given him his chest infection a few weeks ago. Now you can't give away what you haven't got and since I was as healthy as a race horse with nary a sniffle, I wondered how it was me that provided the germs to cause his coughing. It's yer reputation, innit? You have a reputation of illnesses and become the de facto scapegoat for anything that's going round!

1. Get a job that pays for the first three days of sickness.
2. Going in with a cold show commitment to sharing your misery with others including the people relying on you.
3. If some inconsiderate person shared it with you keep it to yourself by staying at home it will be appreciated.

If you're ill you're ill, nothing you can do about it but you certainly shouldn't feel compelled to work. I have very strict sickness policies in my job but if I'm ill, I will not stay in work. Not only is it unfair on everyone else that's well, theres a high probability that I don't have the ability to do my job to the best of my ability and that could be serious...so BigonaBianchi, I agree with you and sympathise as I'm also currently sick with man-flu

Thank you. I think I'm coming to the end of it now but have a nasty chesty cough. Felt so lethargic with it. You know somethings up when you can barely cycle on the flat...

Haha! It's painful not being able to go out but I guess it gives me a bit more time to find some decent clothing as even that isn't proving very easy!!

...see now your talking ...clearly the reason why chest infections exist is so us cyclists can spend time on wiggle et al shopping for new lycra and gear etc

Haha! Wiggle is dangerous...although I'm disappointed that most of the tights I want are discontinued in my size? What's that all about? I don't get why they've hardly brought any Spring/Summer clothing out...

I'm a supply teacher.
So what's this got to do with price of fish?

If I don't go in I don't get paid.
If I go in ill I might pass it onto others. If it's: a) children, it makes my job easier; b) other staff, I get more work.

So I go in ill .
I've had 3 days off through being too ill in the last 4 years. I've had more time off through there being no work, that is, no staff off ill.

Plus I'm a tough Northerner .
