I thought the Monkees were played by the Beatles.

(I only had a hazy idea who the Beatles were, my Mum owned a single EP, and we didn't have a record player to play it on...)

Also, when they said on the news that 'a man's body has been found...', I wondered what had happened to the arms, legs and head.

My sister thought misled was pronounced mizzl'd. (Logical if you think about it) Took us ages to work out what she was on about when she asked it's meaning.

Aged four, I was convinced that power stations were there to make clouds. You could see them billowing up from the cooling towers...

I'll be passing three cloud making plants in a few minutes. Judging by the blue skies, they've been idle for a few hours, probably making up for the complete cloud cover of the last few days!

My dad told me that every night, when you went to bed, you grew an inch.

I repeated this "fact" to many people until when, at about 8 years old, I was told by a teacher that, in that case, I should be over 240 feet tall!

When we go to visit my mum driving down the A1 we pass a power station. For ages we managed to convinve the kids that this was a cloud factory, but now they don't believe us anymore.

I used to think there was a great bike railway loop where trains could go and turn round before they went back the other way.

I'd heard ''mizzled'' used as a word as a kid - I thought of it as a local word and it was ages before I realised where it came from.

I still have to think how ''awry'' is pronounced, probably because I'd seen it written but never heard it pronounced. I went for ''awri'' with the stress on the ''aw''

And ''emnity'' is a word that got stuck in my mind when I first saw it. I don't know whether I misread it or whether it was a misprint.

A word kids seemed to get collectively wrong is ''circumstised.''
