Hi all

Looking for advice- I'm getting a boardman 650b mountain bike for most of my cycling, and wanting to get a flat bar road type bike as a second one.

My choices are;

Boardman Hybrid Comp £499
Avid BB5 mechanical disc brakes
SRAM X5 gears
FSA Velo compact 50/34t chain set
700x28 tyres

Boardman hybrid Sport £385
Avid single digit 3 V brakes
Shimano Altus 18 gears
FSA Tempo compact 50/34t chain set
700x32 tyres

13 implicit alpha £499
Tektro HDC300 hydraulic discs
Shimano Altus 18 gears
FSA Tempo compact 50/34t chain set
700x28 tyres

My gut tells me the 13 has the better brakes, the hybrid comp the better gears, both better tyres for road, but the hybrid sport saves me £100

Any thoughts???

Cheers

That is a tough one. I nearly bought the CB HC but opted for the CB MX Race instead (2 reasons, the £50 reduction and suspension forks). The breaks are the same and do the job. The hydraulic disc breaks on my Carrera Fury are much, much better (so are the gears, come to think of it), they stop you on a dime. The Sram x5 gears work well, no complaints. Dunno owt about shimano altus so I cant comment.

For me its a choice between the 13 and the CB HC and a choice between breaks and gears. If pushed i`d go for the 13 because of the hydraulic discs and the fact that it looks brill :becool:

Yeah I do lean towards the 13 a bit myself on design! In didn't consider the mx race only because I want the road bike to be fixed fork, will have the 650b mountain bike for suspension!

Can't wait to get them!
