The carbon fork will make the ride of the bike more comfortable in theory but depends on the quality of the rest of the frame too

You'll find either pretty rattly after a hardtail MTB with suspension

Well what is the roadbike going to have on the wheels...? Slicks are tyres that don't have a knobbly grip like an MTB, which is one reason why MTBs are hard to ride on the road

I know this the tyres are not the problem though its the weight i have reached speeds on the way back home of around 14mph on the flat

Didn't notice the carbon/alloy fork. Carbon forks take off a lot of the road buzz, which is what's made the difference in riding quality on my Raleigh. With the alloy fork it just didn't handle well at all.

Is that definately 14 ?

A road bike'll be much quicker, even a budget one.

Stevey, if you don't mind holding off a bit longer, why not stick narrower slick tyres on the mountain bike for the time being. In a couple of months the 2014 bikes will start appearing and you will soon get decent discounts on this year's models. You may get a slightly higher spec than you would buying just now.

Oh, maybe the last 6 months of hauling my bike to and from work has helped my fitness
Although we are superior in many other ways ;) , gender can affect cycling speed...

Okay thanks for the reply's and help just got back from testing both bikes at lbs was on both for around 30 min have to say the focus celebro 5.0 while it was nice and had a nice groupset (as mentioned) the revenio 1 for me just edged it.

Wasn't to sure at first about the 2300's but it turned out not to be a problem combined with more relaxed geomentry of the frame to me was more comfortable.

So bike is ordered and paid for (thanks mrs stevey :smooch:) should be ready for tue/wed another day off work to go and collect it  got a couple of extras thrown in http://www.cyclelife.com/Product.aspx?pc=2&pt=91&pg=10426 and these for rainy days http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sks-bluemels-road-mudguard-set/

Overall happy if had more money then yes i would have pushed the boat out but for what i will do on it and my needs it pretty well meets my expectations.

Once again thanks for all comments and suggestions .

As i will not be having spd's/clipless (yet) can anyone suggest some pedals that would be ok for the new bike??
