Choosing a Chainring and Sprocket Combination

Maybe on a track where there aren't any hills, wind etc then you might feel the difference. I reckon for mere mortals on the road with so many variables it would be hard to notice the difference. I've not experimented myself, so I don't know.

I dunno , a 74" gear has gotta b the same as another 74" gear if all the rest of bike is the same , I can't imagine any chainring / sprocket combo being different if it works out to b the same gear inches , prob hubs and Tyres / drivetrain losses are marginal differences
