How was Christmas in the end @slowmotion? Hopefully you enjoyed yourself no matter what you were wearing!
It was highly civilised and we benefited from very generous hospitality. On any occasions where smart sofas were likely to be used I wore my suit trousers and a Harris tweed jacket, both of which I inherited long ago from the widows of friends and relations.

A few days after we left, my wife and daughter told me I looked like a circus clown rather than the picture of sartorial elegance that I was seeking.

the tweeds and tidy trousers were fine, the comedy big shoes were the problem

The hair, nose, and squirting bow tie didn't help.
I've learned to live with the nose.
