Every December I add some battery operated Christmas lights to my commuting bike to get myself some festive cheer (not the flashy kind of lights obviously) and just as a silly thing to do around the holiday. Usually this means that little kids wave at me, commuters will shout 'Merry Christmas', some will take a picture, you get the idea.

Question is should I add them to my first road bike? It is my only bike now and I would be putting them in the wheels, on the frame and on me. I'd like to continue this trend but I'm hesitant this year due to the quality of a road bike compared to a commuter bike which I was happy to tape things to and fiddle with. Good idea, bad idea, let me know what you think (and apologies for talking about Christmas in September :santa:

The number of people who would recognise the differences between a road bike and a commuting bike is so low that I can't understand why you would fret over this:smile:.

I put battery operated fairy lights around my handlebars on 1st December. My roadie hasn't complained yet. This year I'll put similar lights on my CX bike too. They are only about £4 from The Range up at Longwater, so nice and cheap.
I don't put them in the wheels though, although I am seriously considering some Monkey Lights for the wheels and might to a festive sort of colour scheme with them in December.

I band them to the frame. They're cheaper from QD which has cycle parking near it, whereas The Range seem anti-cycling. In my experience, The Range shops either have no cycle parks or they fill them with pallets of products and they've ignored questions about it - basically, it seems like unless you set Planning Enforcement Officers on them, not even the minimum will be provided.

I wired mine into an 18650 battery and run them round the frame.Need to re-do it as not all of them light now.

You sound MAD.

But accepting your madness as an endearing quality, ask yourself why the quality of your bike should dictate how you express your neurosis.

You are either mad or your are just pretending.

You decide which.
