Christmas Tree - real or artificial

Another thread about Christmas trees has got me wondering about people's choices.

We had real trees for many years but about ten years ago I got fed up of the annual faff of buying, cleaning up needles and then getting rid of the trees so paid out quite a lot for an artificial tree. So much less fuss than it was, especially as I am not religious and not a great fan of the annual Christmas merry-go-round of excessive and conspicuous consumption, plugged by the manufacturers and media to generate profits. (other points of view exist!).

What is your choice and why, real or artificial...or no tree?

A Pencil Fir artificial.I love it it is really narrow,it does not take up a lot of space.

Artificial, but I do have a large real fir in my garden. It's grown from about 4 ft five years ago, to over 20ft now. The Xmas lights went on it yesterday.

No tree here.

It seems most of our family and friends have minimised or eliminated all the preparations and planning for just one day. I find it a huge relief to leave it all behind.

Big real one in the kitchen/living room and a smaller fake one in the sitting room.
Just bought the real one. Blooming expensive- 7foot for £79!!
It’s is a sitting in a bucket in the garden for the next week.

I've never had a plastic tree. All the faff of a real tree is an integral part of Christmas that I really enjoy.

Our artificial one is ~20 years old now, better half desperate to replace it, I think it looks fine... Especially when most of the tree is covered in newer decorations!

Daughter has a live tree in a large pot on the patio. Brings it inside for Christmas

Not when you think your looking at about 6 years work all done by hand to grow it to be ready to sell.
Leaving it to have a good drink is the way to go, make sure you've cut a few inch off the bottom. So it's fresh wood and not the dried over end.

Fake. Came down out of the loft today, currently being decorated by the other half (she's better at that stuff than me). Had it for over 10 years, probably longer.

(Post-childhood I was never a big fan. Then I spent 24 hours over Christmas Eve/Christmas Day squeezing the hand of my dying mother while nurses sang Christmas carols to the conscious patients in the ward... That killed what little interest was left!)

I hope those of you who do celebrate Christmas enjoy it. (November 30th seems very early to be talking about it though!)
