My mother used to make and bake our Christmas cake now in August complete with almond paste on top, saying it gave it time to settle before cutting it on the actual day. 🤔 🧐

My Mum did that one year and it stank the place out for months.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a bad smell per se, although it also wasn't the nicest and quite frankly, nothing could have put me more off it for life than that.

I think I was actually made to eat it on the day after having gone decidedly off the wretched thing.

I can smell it now just thinking about it.

I think it was the other ingredients she used that made the smell, this was NOT a 'cake' smell as such.

Of anything it was more of a yeasty or fermenting smell. It was sort of like a... Oh sorry, I have just remembered, this was a Christmas pudding (I think), not a cake, sorry!

Christmas lines being put out in B&M here in Ely this evening. Mostly pet stuff and some chocolates, but plenty of empty shelves edged with red-and-gold trim awaiting seasonal stock.

Garden centre now has its Halloween displays up and Christmas decorations are starting to appear on sale.

My local B&M had a shelf cleared for Chrimble merch on Saturday, and there were products there on Sunday.

Scented candles are just what we need right now.

My ex local pub posted this on the local gossip etc Facebook page. To be fair, they are asking for ideas for a Christmas fayre, more than advertising their Christmas menu, ales etc.😉
