Despite drinking quite a lot of it, in my time, I know little about wine.
I did once actually get a job, based, as far as I can tell, on my knowledge of wine.
The story goes like this:
I applied for, and got an interview for a job as a Software Developer. When I arrived for the interview, much to my surprise, there were about ten other people at the meeting point, who all seemed to have the same interview time. We were introduced, en-masse to the Interviewer, and then, taken, in a mini-bus, with the Interviewer, to a Restaurant. Here, we had a rather good meal, and several bottles of wine. I do not recall being asked a single question relating to my skills (or otherwise) as a Software Developer. Apart from some general chit chat, the only question I recall being asked, was my view on the wine. It so happened that at least one of the bottles circulating had been a Rioja (one of my favourites), and, I ventured an opinion on that one.
As I say, I got the job,
I usually use this story to attempt to convince Mrs
@BoldonLad that my time spent drinking Spanish Red Wine was time well spent. I am not sure that she is convinced.
To answer the question in the OP.
The only on-line wine buying experience I have tried is Avery, after I spotted an ad in Private Eye.
Given my lack of knowledge, I opted for a "suggested" case of Spanish Reds.
I found the wine and the service to be excellent, with no requirement to buy on a regular basis and no subsequent pestering to buy more.
I was pleased enough to have repeated the experience several times since.
