Just in the interests of public information, as there've been a few threads in the Café on this.

They're calling it a day. Very sad, as they were a breath of fresh air in an age of manufactured formulaic pop and (c)rap.
Last UK gig is on 31st October at Leeds City Varieties Music Hall (where else could it be?) - www.cityvarieties.co.uk for details. Got mine!!!

I still listen to Pictures of Staving Children Sell Records, Charity and Rock & Roll and Never Mind The Ballots... both classic albums and never fail to please. Slap has its fair share of good tracks, as does Anarchy... and some bugger nicked my copy of English Rebel Songs

Once they started appearing on telly they lost a bit of their spark.

I saw them a couple of time around 1990ish... great live band!

I've just opened my mail and one item was the City Varieties autumn/winter program and I was saddened when I read the guff about the Chumbawamba gig.

Folk underestimate Chumbawamba. Too many people associate them with only with the John Prescott incident and Tubthumping. I was a member of that crowd until I saw them at a festival a couple of years ago. They've moved on and play a largely acoustic set with insightful and incisive lyrics. I was very surprised and became an instant fan. I've seen them twice since then and will be at their final gig. It will give me an opportunity to see some of their early stuff as they go through their back catalogue.

They didn't use their brief moment in the spotlight very well. I'm sure they enjoyed chucking a bucket of water over him but they came out of it about as well as the mulletted egg thrower... I much preferred their crucifixion of Cliff Richard.

I worked with Alice, who's real name is Anne, way before the Chumba days and she is as sound as the proverbial. Boff is a cracking guy. I saw them one night in Burnley, the next night they were playing on the south coast and early the following morning, Boff turned up to run a relay-leg of the Calderdale Way for his club. That took commitment!

Great band, worked with them back in their Creation Records days. And as Paul says Anne is sound..
That's also my face track.
Lovely album cover (Anarchy) too if any one want's to google it.
